Say Something! by Peter H. Reynolds has a great message, and its illustrations are very engaging - my class loved it!
The main topic in the book discusses how a single voice can make a difference. I think that in the world we live in today, this is an important topic to discover.
I think it is important for students to know that their voice can inspire, heal and help change the world. This is an important part of mindfulness because we often forget that we can make a difference since we are each unique.
After, we discussed why one voice can help change the world and why this is important. We came to the conclusion that because we are all unique, we all have something great to say. We also need to be mindful that each persons voice or what they have to say may be different, and that is okay.
To follow this reading, we talked about personal expression and various ways of personally expressing ourselves. Students task was to create a personal expression piece using magazine cut-outs.
Each students end product was vastly different. They turned out amazing.
I think this book inspired my class to be creative and to enhance the ideas that they are all different. I would read this book again because of it's great message.
