Have you filled a bucket today?

my findings:
My class adored this activity! They were very excited to walk into the classroom to see the new bulletin board at the back of the classroom. Prior to the activity, I made each student a bucket. This was time consuming for me, however, was worth it because each student had an identical bucket, that worked the way it was intended to. I wrote each student's name on one, they hung it up on the bulletin board for each access. Hanging the buckets on the bulletin board was a great idea because it made the classroom look less cluttered compared to if they were on a table. I also decided to make dozens of sample compliment ideas for students. This was a great tool because students who were stuck could look at the bulletin board for ideas. Additionally, I stapled a folder to the bulletin board that contained pre-cut Compliment Cards for my class - this was intended for students to be able to write their classmates a compliment whenever they felt someone deserved one. My class loved reading the book because they felt like they could personally connect to it. After the reading, they were SO excited to fill eachother's buckets. Each student got six compliment cards their task was to 1) write down six unique compliments 2) give them to six different people. My class loved doing this because it created classroom community. To ensure everyones bucket was overflowing with compliments, I prompted students who finished quickly to make more for other students in the class. This made sure each student felt included and appreciated. The next morning, students read the compliments their received in their bucket. Their eyes lit up with excitement. One student said, "this acitivity made her feel loved." We will continue practicing this activity daily.
