- Ask students a question. Give them a few seconds to think about it.
- Teacher models the activity first. They will answer the question first.
- Going around the circle, students take turns sharing their answer. Students have the right to pass during this activity, I found some students needed extra thinking time, at the end of the activity they will have the opportunity to share.
my findings:
I started implementing community circles regularly in my classroom. Through my experience, I found this strategy was a great way for students to share their thoughts and ideas with their classmates. By reviewing the rules and expectations of this activity, students respected this time and chose to participate. I found this activity a great way to build community within my class. Students attentively listened to their peers, and genuinely wanted to share their ideas. I found students learned a new perspective from their classmates, which was refreshing. Additionally, I try to review the rules and expectations each time we do this activity, so students remember to be respectful of each other. This activity could be used for any subject.
